This can be a shocking news for those shopping fans. If you are someone who is involved in shopping for your products on Amazon, this can be a news you should pay attention to. A considerably good number of products on Amazon are not directly sold by Amazon, but by a host of third party sellers. And what makes it more of a risky proposition is a huge number of them are anonymous.
Amazon is not certainly good at policing and monitoring the products sold on its platform. That is why several sellers have been selling unsafe products. A recent investigation carried out by the Wall Street Journal showed that almost around 4000 products sold on Amazon have been found to be “declared unsafe by federal agencies, are deceptively labeled or are banned by federal regulators.”
What makes it even more of an intriguing part is that the list consists of a few products – as much as 150 of them – have been banned by Amazon itself, but still available for purchase and stocked in Amazon warehouses! That should speak a lot about Amazon policy.
Following the report on the Wall Street Journal, Amazon came up with an assurance about its safety measures it has been planning for the security of its customers. It stated that
“We invest significant resources to protect our customers and have built robust programs designed to ensure products offered for sale in our store are safe and compliant,”
The likely steps to be taken by Amazon notwithstanding, it would be a good idea to exercise caution when buying products on Amazon.
