The former governor of Kentucky has been facing a lot of criticism over the pardoning of a lot convicts during the last days in office. The Republican governor of Kentucky Matt Bevin had pardoned as many as 428 convicts during his final days in office. And most of the convicts were the relatives of his supporters.
A strange pardoning is in the case of a child rapist. The man was convicted of raping a 9 year old girl and he was pardoned just because the “hymen of the victim was not broken”!
Buth the former governor does not seem to have any remorse. He defended his action through a radio interview on Thursday. The case was about the 41-year-old Micah Schoettle who was convicted or rape, sodomy, and incest in 2018 and was subsequently pardoned by Matt Bevin.
Bevin cast doubts on the victim and her testimony. She had accused Schoettle of raping her for two years. He claimed that both their hymens were intact and it would not remain so if they were raped for two years.
He stated in the interview,
“Both their hymens were intact. This is perhaps more specific than people would want, but trust me. If you have been repeatedly sexually violated as a small child by an adult, there are going to be repercussions of that physically and medically.”
However, experts from the medical fraternity have been claiming that Bevin was all wrong. Hymen rupture alone cannot be the criteria for convicting someone of rape. A study has clearly indicated that only around 2 per cent of the victims of child rape show a sign of hymen rupture.
