A Los Angeles Police officer was caught on camera, fondling a dead woman’s breasts. He was charged on felony count, the authorities have reported.
The LAPD officer, David Rojas, 27, was charged with the offense of having sexual contact with the human remains without authority. The Los Angeles County district attorney’s office issued a statement indicating the action taken against the police official. The officer has been with LAPD for the last four years and has been arrested by the internal affairs division of the department.
The incident happened on October 20 when Rojas, along with a fellow officer when we went to the woman’s home responding to a report of the dead woman. He was alone in the room with the dead body, and his partner had gone out to get the paperwork done. He turned off the body camera that he had on and then fondled the dead woman’s breasts.
However, the camera comes with a two-minute buffer before switching off, and the incident was recorded on the camera. The footage was found when the authorities were conducting a random inspection of the body cameras.
The Los Angeles Times first reported the case.
“We hope that District Attorney Jackie Lacey charging Mr. Rojas for his vile alleged crime will bring some solace to the deceased woman’s family during their time of grieving,” said a statement from the Los Angeles Police Protective League. The Police Union has decided not to defend Rojas. Even his coworkers have already gone on record, stating that they were furious.
Rojas will face three years in prison if proven guilty. Authorities have set a bail of $ 20000.
