Facebook and Facebook Messenger are the two commonly used applications these days. However, if the recent reports are to be believed, it may be time you would need to delete your account and stop using Facebook Messenger services.
Flabbergasted? Well, you have a reason to worry. A recent report has indicated that the externals contractors have been listening to the communication being carried out on Facebook Messenger. The reports cited by Bloomberg suggest that Facebook has appointed the external contractors to listen to the private conversations using the audio to text conversion feature.
The communication from Facebook does not come clear with the policy. It merely states that “We collect the content, communications and other information you provide when you use our products, including when you sign up for an account, create or share content and message or communicate with others.”
It may be heartening t notice that Facebook has claimed that the practice has been stopped since a week now. It should also be noticed here that even Google and Apple had been accused of resorting to similar activities. However, both the tech giants have now stopped the practice of using human reviewers after being caught opting for it.

Given the future plans of merging Facebook Messenger with WhatsApp, the practice can be quite alarming. If you are someone who has used the transcription functionality on the Facebook Messenger service, you may be the one affected.
It should be evident to note that Facebook has often shown less regard to the privacy concerns of its users. Even when it is important to undertake human reviews from time to time, it is important to note that it should be conveyed explicitly to the users, which is not the case with the recent controversy with Facebook Messenger.
If you want to stay secure, do not use Facebook messenger for private conversations. However, it may not be the time right now to take the drastic step as yet. Of course, it is evident that the tech giant has not been taking ample steps to take good care of your data. We hope the social media giant thinks over it before it is too late.
