Looking for a soulmate? Facebook wants to assist you in finding the right mate. Yes, you head it right. Your favourite social media service Facebook recently launched its own dating service.
The service has currently been launched for the US region as of now along with the 19 other countries. and will be launched in other regions of the world in a phased manner. It was announced almost a year back and has now been made available from Thursday.
Facebook is tackling the new frontier with the service. Facebook dating service was already live Brazil and Canada along with a few countries and made an entry into the US on Septemeber 5. If you are 18 or above, you can sign up for the service and create your dating profile. Please note that your Facebook dating profile would be entirely different from the main profile. Your normal friends will not have access to the profile in any way.
Facebook online dating service will follow its own algorithm to arrive at the suggestions of matchmaking offered to you. Facebook claims that the suggestions would be based on the basis of “preferences, interests and other things you do on Facebook.” Obviously, these suggestions will have nothing to do with the Facebook friends you already have.
You have access to a Secret Crush option. This can be used to choose any of the Facebook Friens and Instagram Followers. You can choose up to nine contacts in this manner. If any of them have opted for the Dating service and have added you as a crush, both of you will get a notification to the effect that you have crush on one another.
It may be worthwhile to mention that there will be no specific Facebook dating app and the dating service from Facebook would be a part of the main Facebook app. However, given the spotty record that Facebook has had for the privacy of its users, it may be a million-dollar question of whether the service will take up a shape.
