Selena Gomez has gone on record to indicate that she experienced a severe emotional abuse in her relationship with the fellow musician Justin Beiber. It may be remembered that Gomez had been in an on-again – off again sort of relationship with Beiber.
She talked at length with NPR about the eight-year relationship she shared with the Canadian singer. She claimed that she felt she had been a victim of abuse in the relationship. When asked whether she would term this abuse as emotional abuse, she agreed.
Selena first dated Beiber in 2011 when she was 18, and he was 16. They dated off and on until they decided to part ways in 2018. She did not make it clear as to in which stage of their relationship did she felt emotionally abused.
This is perhaps going in sync with a tweet that Justin Beiber has come up in Septemeber last year, where he confessed of doing heavy drugs at 19 and ” abusing relationships.” “I became resentful, disrespectful to women and angry,” he had written back then.
Selena has always been forthcoming about her life, including her breakups with Justin Beiber and other struggles in her life. “Rare,” her third studio album, has a couple of songs related to the breakups. The song “Lose You to Love Me,” has been believed to be her take on the relationship she shared with Beiber.
NPR claimed that they tried reaching out to Beiber, but no communication has been received.
